What is Pompier Espa like?

Pompier Espa is a charming 50-seat restaurant located in a prime spot in Helsinki. Here, love for food and warm service come together. The first Pompier (French for firefighter) is situated on Albertinkatu in a historic fire brigade hall.

At Espa, à la carte dinner is served from Tuesday to Saturday, 5 PM – 11 PM, with dishes crafted from the best seasonal ingredients, paired with carefully selected wines. Our weekday lunch service from 11 AM – 2 PM offers both table-served dishes and a buffet with soups and salads. For those in a rush, we also offer takeaway options.

What do you recommend from the menu?

Our classic favorite is the city’s best Tarte Tatin – a must-try! For lunch, we recommend the pike wallenberg, a signature dish that we prepare regularly in both Pompier restaurants.

Who leads your kitchen? What is your food and drink philosophy?

Our head chef Pauli Martikainen is not only an outstanding chef but also an exceptional person. He’s been with us since day one and has 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry. Pauli thrives on learning and pushing boundaries, whether by creating new dishes or delivering amazing customer experiences. His kitchen philosophy blends traditional French techniques with global influences, and sustainability is a core value in everything we do, from ingredient sourcing to minimizing food waste.

Our drink menu features carefully chosen Old World wines that complement the seasonal dishes, along with several non-alcoholic options.

What is your head chef’s motto?

“Have some porridge, it’ll keep you going.” – Pauli believes in nurturing both staff and guests, with a daily porridge bar for the team to start the day strong.
