Finnjävel serves the essence of the Finnish soul, with pure flavors and experiences drawn from forests, lakes, fells, and fields. We interpret the unique Finnish culinary heritage in a modern and sophisticated way, making familiar flavors and dishes surprising, charming, and touching. For many, food memories are among the dearest memories.
We wouldn’t be Finnjävel if we didn’t bring forgotten delicacies to the table or refine classics. Even the Karelian pie is not the same after our touch. Finnish hospitality and professionalism are also essential parts of our service.
Finnjävel is a tribute to the true masters of Finnish cuisine. To those in Ostrobothnia, Lapland, and elsewhere in Finland who maintain and refine the proud Finnish culinary heritage. We proudly and diligently continue their work.
The name Finnjävel comes cleverly from the Swedish term meaning “Finnish devil,” which dates back to wartime and Finnish immigrants in Sweden.
What do you recommend from the menu?
Reinterpreted or “Finnjävelized” versions of disliked school meals, for example, are always popular with us, both at lunch and in the evening. With a menu that strongly follows the seasons, the 4-course menu is an excellent choice, transporting our guests to summery cottage vibes right in the middle of Helsinki.
Who leads your kitchen? What is your kitchen philosophy? What about your drink philosophy?
Mikael von Lüders has been the captain of our kitchen for a long time! Miksu leads his kitchen with determination and fairness, setting an example with his own actions. Under his guidance, many chefs discover the secrets and recipes of Finnish cuisine in a whole new way. At Finnjävel Sali, genuine Finnish food made from domestic ingredients is served, drawing from traditional delicacies and culinary traditions.
Our sommelier’s carefully selected wines and other beverages complement and enhance the menu, not forgetting local specialties.
What is your head chef’s motto?
Honest food with a big heart.
