What is Ravintola Cru like?

Ravintola Cru, located in Kauklahti, Espoo, is a North European à la carte restaurant in a charming and idyllic setting. The restaurant’s name, “Cru,” was chosen from gastronomic terminology, specifically from section C, after careful consideration of many options.

Julia, one of the owners, had long dreamed of opening a restaurant in this area, and when the opportunity arose, it felt like the right time. The decision to open the restaurant was made after much planning, and it quickly became a beloved local establishment.

The restaurant is constantly evolving, with new ideas being incorporated into the décor and menu. The place has become a classic destination for locals, offering a cozy ambiance and delicious food. With years of experience in the restaurant industry, owners Matti and Julia have created a warm and inviting atmosphere with a lovely terrace that gets sun all day. Cru also hosts a variety of events and rents out its space for occasions like weddings, birthdays, meetings, and funerals.

What is your recommendation from the menu?

The Wiener Schnitzel is a must-try. It’s a classic dish, perfectly prepared by our chef and known for its excellent flavor.

Who leads your kitchen? What is your kitchen and drink philosophy?

Matti Auf der Mauer is both the owner and the head chef at Cru. He is humorous, skilled, creative, passionate, and calm, with years of experience in the industry. The food and drinks at Cru are based on simplicity, high-quality ingredients, seasonal offerings, and, most importantly, excellent taste. Matti believes in good communication, a positive work atmosphere, and achieving perfect flavor harmony to ensure customer satisfaction.

The restaurant offers a menu inspired by Central and Northern European cuisine. Matti draws inspiration from cooking shows, his preferences, books, the changing seasons, and the availability of fresh ingredients.
