What is Thirsty Scholar like?

Thirsty Scholar is a hidden gem located next to the University of Helsinki campus, offering a secret retreat in the heart of the city. With its high arched ceiling and a cozy, leafy inner courtyard terrace, it’s the perfect spot to escape the city bustle. Whether you’re relaxing alone with a glass of wine or sampling craft beers with friends while playing board games, Thirsty Scholar provides a welcoming atmosphere. The pub boasts an interesting and rotating selection of beers, with a focus on Finnish craft brews, as well as ciders and long drinks. This year, Thirsty Scholar celebrates its 10th anniversary.

What is your recommendation from the menu?

Our standout feature is the house beer on tap, crafted in collaboration with Mad Hopper Brewery. Cervisia Academica is a fruity, medium-strong NEIPA that tantalizes your taste buds and leaves you craving another glass. During summer, our pitchers are a hit, offering a variety of refreshing choices. We have over 70 different beers, ciders, and long drinks to choose from.

Who leads your kitchen? What is your food and drink philosophy?

At Thirsty Scholar, everyone works with their own personality, and we embrace individuality. We believe there are as many tastes in the world as there are people, so we ensure there’s something for everyone. Our drink selection heavily favors Finnish products, with a wide variety of local craft beers. We believe that Finnish is the best, though there are certainly great options from abroad as well!
