Together with the mayor and thousands of residents, Santa officially kicks off the Christmas season in the heart of Finland’s capital.
Helsinki’s iconic Aleksanterinkatu will be lit up in all its festive glory as the traditional Helsinki Christmas Opening Parade brings joy to locals and visitors alike.
This year, the event is bigger and better than ever, transforming into Finland’s largest Christmas opening celebration.
On Saturday, November 23rd, at 4 PM, the dazzling parade starts at Senate Square and makes its way along Aleksanterinkatu, turning onto Mannerheimintie before concluding at Narinkkatori. For the first time, Narinkkatori will host a two-day Christmas Carnival, featuring free carousel rides that are sure to delight the little ones.

One of the event’s most cherished traditions, the lighting of Aleksanterinkatu’s Christmas lights, will take place for the 76th time. The lights, which begin to sparkle as the parade starts at 4 PM on November 23rd, illuminate the city with festive warmth and charm.
The garlands on Aleksanterinkatu, lovingly nicknamed “Aleksi” by locals, are designed in the shape of the letter A. To top it off, all the lights are eco-friendly, using energy-efficient LED technology to brighten up the season sustainably.
